Sharp new tool helps municipalities fight climate change

The Green Book is Africa's first settlement population growth model developed on the continent


Extreme weather events are on the rise because of climate change, and in SA such events have already taken a huge financial toll.

Now, a user-friendly online tool has been launched by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to help municipalities across the country assess the climate change risk and vulnerabilities in their particular area, and adapt human settlements accordingly.

Called the Green Book, the online tool took more than 50 researchers and three years to prepare, and it provides a risk profile for each municipality between now and 2050...
