Rinse and set-up: Hairdresser nicked our cards, claim clients

Lowveld coiffeur accused of pilfering clients' store cards says he was bamboozled by his thieving boyfriend

Mpumalanga hairdresser clients were unsuspectingly chatting as their hair was being washed, while in the room next door their store cards were being swiped from their purses.

Or at least, this is what Edwin Chirgwin, 37, of HairByMe salon, is being accused of. He recently appeared in court in Mbombela on charges of theft. He allegedly used a client’s Foschini store card to buy laptops, a cellphone and a tablet valued at R17,000.

Investigating officer Sergeant Michael Horn said Chirgwin and his boyfriend allegedly worked together – although Chirgwin told Times Select he had no idea his partner was using stolen cards...
