Without Cecilia Steyn's involvement, none of the of the Krugersdorp killings would have taken place, judge says


Those behind the callous Krugersdorp killings ran their operation like an enterprise, and “mastermind” Cecilia Steyn was the main beneficiary of the proceeds from the murders.

This is the finding of Judge Ellem Francis, who on Monday convicted Marcel Steyn, 21, Cecilia Steyn, 37, and Zak Valentine, 33, on a number of counts including murder, racketeering and intimidation.

They had pleaded not guilty to 32 counts, including murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, fraud and intimidation. Marcel’s brother, Le Roux Steyn, entered into a plea bargain with the state in 2018...
