It’s one of Cape Town’s most popular recreational areas, but is it doing more harm than good?

The city has temporarily banned watersports inside the Zandvlei Nature Reserve in Lakeside/Muizenberg amid sewage leaks that some local residents say have infected their pets – and even themselves. 

The City of Cape Town last week confirmed it was awaiting results from additional water tests before reopening water access inside the reserve, but denied any knowledge of “infections” as a result of contact with polluted water...
