Vincenzo Pietropaolo's lawyers miss deadline in bid to overturn decision to force defence to continue its case
The former Bank of Athens treasurer accused of murdering his wife and father has been let down by his legal team, who failed to file their papers in an application to overturn the presiding judge’s decision to insist the defence continue its case.
Vincenzo Pietropaolo is on trial at the high court in Johannesburg, charged with the murder of his estranged spouse Manuela, who was shot nine times at her home in November 2017. He is also facing a murder charge for a separate incident where his father, Pasqualino, was killed in what initially appeared to be a robbery.
In March, as prosecutor Lwazi Ngodwana completed his case, the defence launched a section 174 application that asked the court to acquit Pietropaolo on the murder charge relating to Pasqualino’s death...
