A 12-member expedition team is ready to climb Kilimanjaro for children living with severe burn scars


A plastic surgeon and the mother of two burn victims will attempt to summit Mount Kilimanjaro to give children with severe scarring lives free of ridicule.

Cape Town surgeon Kamlen Pillay and Soweto mother Tebogo Tsotetsi are part of a 12-member expedition team that will depart to Tanzania on June 16 where they will attempt to tackle Africa’s highest mountain to raise R3m to buy a laser machine that reduces scarring.

The climb is being spearheaded by the Avela Foundation, which helps children with burn injuries...
