‘You can be beautiful at any age’: Claudia Schiffer walks the talk at 50
The last of the original supermodels to reach her 50s, the German bombshell won’t let age get in her way
Claudia Schiffer’s birthday celebrations are ongoing – online, in any case. The German supermodel, who turned 50 on Tuesday, has been tagged in hundreds of tributes from fans and friends on Instagram. Designers including Dolce and Gabbana and Donatella Versace have launched new products in her honour. Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing sent her a huge meringue and a custom-made outfit. What does 50 look like now? She’s having pudding for breakfast in her Oxfordshire kitchen, wearing an electric blue, sheer crochet dress.
“There’s a reason we have cakes on our birthdays and I feel the same way about getting older each year,” Schiffer muses of the milestone. “I believe you can be youthful and beautiful at any age. Personally, I have always enjoyed getting older as it comes with more confidence.”
Schiffer is the last of the original supermodels to reach her 50s. The stars “discovered” in the late 1980s – Schiffer, plus Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell – represent the first generation of models to work for three decades non-stop, without being dropped by traditionally-ageist fashion designers, or being forced into “retirements”. ..
