Looking around for a drama-free date? Say aye and do Netflix

The streaming service has four reality dating shows on offer this weekend, all sans the histrionics

Reality television romance is fun. Most of the time it is like watching your least favourite person get into a metaphorical car crash over and over again, with the benefit of slow motion and commentary. It doesn’t always have to be like that, though. Sometimes drama is the cheap cologne on an otherwise decent human being. Without it they would be much more pleasant, but now all you can smell is Axe Wild Cinnamon. So if you are into reality romance without all their hair-pulling, here are some drama-lite reality dating shows to try out this weekend: 

Dating Around S2

If you like reality dating shows, but aren’t a fan of the drama shows such as Temptation Island and Love Island bring, then Netflix’s Dating Around may be just your speed. If you haven’t seen the show, brace yourself for something different. There is no host, there are no roses and, most refreshingly, there are no formulaic tension-building gimmicks. Instead, one person goes for drinks with five people and winnows through them over the course of a night (well, it looks like a night but it’s actually a week). We watch their conversations and chemistry (or lack thereof), and at the end, one gets chosen for a second date. No wedding ring. No romantic trip to a far-flung Pacific island. Just a second date. It turns out that is all we ever really needed from a dating show...
