Le Palace is the place to be: Chanel picks Karl over Coco
Chanel pays homage to its late creative director in a punk couture masterpiece
One of the most important fashion shows in the world (and the highlight of Couture Week), the Chanel Haute Couture show, is made famous through documentaries, a world-renowned front row and the genius of Karl Lagerfeld.
In an age when designers are the new rock stars, Karl was king among his kin. The embodiment of the maison’s values, Lagerfeld effortlessly fused Parisian chic with a rockstar edge. Under his eye, Chanel became one of the biggest cult brands in the world.
It came as no surprise that when Virginie Viyard (Lagerfeld’s successor and co-designer of 30 years) took the helm, the great designer was still in her thoughts. In their debut virtual couture show, Viyard echoed Lagerfeld’s sentiments and showed a collection filled with edgy romanticism. “I was thinking about a punk princess coming out of ‘Le Palace’ at dawn.”..
