As parents we all want our children to be better people than we were. We get all excited about sending them to progressive and beam proudly when they publicly espouse strong views on climate change and racism. The big question though is how to cultivate those noble qualities because, let’s be fair, looking at the world today we’ve definitely done a slapdash job on our previous crops of humans. Books are usually a great way to transmit some solid ideas, and if you are keen on raising conscientious little cupcakes here are some nifty ideas for woke books for young adults: 

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas:

A particularly apt story all things considered, The Hate U Give is about a young high school-aged lady, Starr, whose friend is murdered by the police while reaching for a hairbrush. Initially she is forced to keep her friend’s death a secret but it is not long before it all comes out. A grand jury decides not to indict the officer and the community erupts into peaceful protests and riots.
