Know which wine to choose? If not, here’s where to go

Democracy presumes that everyone who votes has an equally well-informed opinion. Notwithstanding this rather obvious defect, it is the preferred system in most countries.

Clearly most citizens in most democratic countries have abandoned any hope of finding a better way to direct their affairs. They go through the charade of electing their leaders. Sometimes, such as with Brexit, they vote for an idea or a proposal. Perhaps in doing so they give expression to their self-interest. Mostly, I suspect, they tick a box and then get on with their lives as best they can.

If this is how people decide about matters that could have a huge effect on their lives, it would seem safe to assume that, when the choice is irrelevant to anything more than a couple of hours of happiness, they would willingly let a roulette wheel point them in the right direction...
