Living proof that your 70s could be the coolest decade yet
As US Vogue editor Anna Wintour turns 70, she joins a stellar cast of women defining a new power decade
Will Anna Wintour ever abdicate? It was confirmed in 2018 that the US Vogue boss will remain in fashion’s most influential position “indefinitely”, meaning her ever-present sunglasses and high-gloss bob are going nowhere any time soon.
The formidable editor-in-chief has left her 60s behind, and in doing so joins an elite army of women who are rebranding their 70s as the new power decade. Where once reaching this milestone would have prompted retirement (older women in fashion couldn’t be trendsetters, while actors of this age were only up for “crone roles”), there’s a seismic, positive shift happening thanks to new leaders in all fields. Wintour’s empire only seems to be growing, with her impact informing the worlds of politics, film, music and sport, way beyond her Vogue base.
We celebrate our favourite women who are claiming their 70s as their most successful and stylish years yet:..
