Supertubes Guest House is the perfect place for a jaded Johannesburger to chill out and enjoy the company

To the untrained eye Jeffrey’s Bay may seem like a snoozy little town in the Eastern Cape, but to the global surfing community it’s the place to be. Surfers come from far and wide to enjoy the waves of a myriad beaches the town has on offer. I’m no surfer but an offer to escape the bustle of Johannesburg was much welcomed.

There’s something in the air at Jeffrey’s Bay. At first I thought it was just the fresh air that one can only dream of inhaling in the City of Gold, but I later realised that it’s the people – they’re pleasant to interact with. The owners and staff at the hotel we stayed in were no different – I rate them five stars on the hospitality front.

When we checked into Supertubes Guest House I felt at home. We were given a warm welcome by the staff and they had prepared some welcome snacks and cake for us. The four-star hotel is modern in style and has luxurious en-suite bedrooms that all feature private balconies. I was lucky enough to have a sea-facing balcony – I’d sip my first cup of tea while looking at the sunrise over the water...
