Bookmarks: Harry escapades and the Moore the merrier

Much sex and drugs and general depravity in two new tell-all showbiz books: Demi Moore’s Inside Out: A Memoir (Fourth Estate) and Debbie Harry’s Face It (HarperCollins). In the case of the latter, there’s even a bit of rock ’n’ roll.
More alarmingly, there are some disturbing accounts of rape as well, and it is Moore’s experience here that is perhaps the more shocking – and has, justifiably, made the headlines.
Moore’s childhood was erratic. Her father was a philandering gambler who would abandon his family. Her mother was a former beauty queen who took to drink and, 15-year-old daughter in tow, would trawl LA’s trendy bars and restaurants looking for men to pick up. One of them raped Demi, and later asked her: “How does it feel to be whored by your mother for $500?” ..
