New technology may signal the end of the smartphone

Amazon is to launch Alexa smart glasses, allowing users to summon the voice assistant on the go. Echo Frames are part of a new selection of wearable technology with the voice assistant, including wireless earbuds and a ring. 

The glasses, which can make calls, look up facts, read out notifications and play music, will cost $180 (about R2,700), and weigh 31g. They come with prescription lenses.  

Facebook has also confirmed that it is building augmented reality (AR) glasses that it hopes will one day replace the smartphone. ..
