Put a brave face on your skincare habits as you age

We speak to ‘the Joburg beauty doctor’ to find out what we should be doing to keep our skins looking young

The best defence against ageing is to look after your skin. Aesthetic physician Nontuthuko Mvundla, known as “the Joburg beauty doctor”, says we can incorporate habits and products into our daily skincare routine to slow down ageing. Not sure where to start? She shares some basic tips:

In your 20s: Prevention is key and the sooner you start to look after your skin, the better. Find a sunscreen with at least SPF30 for your day to day and indoor activity and SPF50 for the outdoors to prevent fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation later in life.

In your 30s: Make sure you have a good antioxidant serum to neutralise free radicals which age your skin prematurely. This is also a good time to start chemical exfoliating/peeling facials regularly to help resurface your skin. Remember, once you hit your 30s, your skin resurfacing function has decreased from when you were in your 20s...
