Social media addiction is smothering your life. Here are six ways to kick the habit and reenter the real world

Social media has become so ubiquitous that weddings are getting their own hashtags. The constant influx of likes, comments, follows and updates on others’ lives is dopamine-inducing, just like sex, eating and cocaine consumption. This realisation is moving a lot of people to reduce their social media usage, but how do you quell that itch? Here are six ways you can reduce the number of times you reach for your screens to feed that addiction.

Get apps

This sounds counter-intuitive, but if you’re constantly being distracted by your phone when you need to get stuff done, look for apps like Forest or Pomodorro. Forest grows digital plants while you work on specific tasks. As soon as you exit the app to scroll on other stuff your plant dies. Pomodorro is a time-management app. It gives you periods in which to work followed by breaks. Challenge yourself to use social media only in the breaks...
