Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, released a few weeks ago in the US, is already courting controversy. A scene involving a fight between Brad Pitt’s character, stuntman Cliff Booth, and Bruce Lee (Mike Moh) has been criticised by Lee’s daughter Shannon and others for its caricatured representation of the late martial arts legend.

Originally conceived as a three-round fight between the two characters sparked by an insult by Booth and ending with the stuntman’s victory, and other sites have reported that Pitt and other members of the crew objected to the idea, pointing out the cult status of Lee and the impossibility of such an outcome.

According to an interview with HuffPo, stunt coordinator Robert Alonzo said Pitt was against the extended version of the scene, telling the website: “Everyone involved was like, ‘How is this going to go over?’ Brad was very much against it,” Alonzo said. “He was like, ‘It’s Bruce Lee, man!’”..
