Healthy eating is taking off, but limited budgets bite

More people have healthier intentions when eating out, but often they 'revert to what they know'

South Africans are increasingly interested in healthy meals when ordering in and dining out, said food executives at an event hosted by Discovery Vitality in Johannesburg – but their good intentions don’t always match their orders.

Uber Eats GM Ailyssa Pretorius said “health” was one of their top search terms, yet fried chicken, cheeseburgers and Margherita pizzas were still the most popular items.

“Without a range of health options, very often people will revert to what they know and what comes to them quickly ... and price matters.”..
