Joburg art is on the move – in more ways than one

The Turbine Art Fair opens this weekend at its new home and is hoping to create art collectors out of us all

It’s art time again in Johannesburg! The RMB Turbine Art Fair is back for its seventh edition this coming weekend from July 12-14.

It will no longer be staged at Turbine Hall in Newtown. Instead, Illovo will be its new home in 2019.

It was actually the founder, Glynis Hyslop, who identified the unoccupied office building on Fricker Road, Illovo as the perfect space to be transformed into an art oasis. And according to Kefiloe Siwisa, co-curator to the fair with Nomvuyo Horwitz, it was hard to see how the building could play host to galleries of artwork, but that in the end, it’s turned out to be the perfect setting...
