Partaking in a profusion, a plethora, a plenitude of Plett

Perfect peace despite the paddleboarding

“Steer with your right hand!” The girl shouting at me from the boat thinks she’s being helpful, but I can’t tell my right from my left at the best of times – and right now, with tree branches hooked in my hair and the board I’m trying to paddle on (standing up, nogal) threatening to slide out from underneath me … well, right now is just not the best of times. 

That’s a pity, because up until the moment I steered my paddleboard into a clump of foliage from which I seemed unable to extricate myself, I had been experiencing a moment of deep and happy bliss. There I was, our cruise boat languidly gliding the Keurbooms River, sipping on bubbles and marvelling at the mountains. There had been a brief paddle in Whisky Cove (pirates came to mind) … and then the paddleboard disaster.

Happily, equilibrium was restored with an espresso martini, enjoyed next to the heated rooftop pool at the Sky Villa Boutique Hotel. This was my Plettenberg Bay home for a few days, a home that pleased me greatly...
