Nowt more of-the-moment than this malachite bowl
Your design-fundi friends will be green with envy if you find yourself with an Envy & Co and Wola Nani piece
A exotic green malachite bowl, made in collaboration between Envy & Co and Wola Nani, is high on wanted lists right now.
You might recall Wola Nani’s papier-mâché bowls, plates and jewellery, made with recycled Lion Match or Lucky Star pilchards graphics, that provide a sustainable income for people with HIV/Aids.
The Mineral collection, under the direction of designers Kay Abrahams and Jaco Janse van Rensburg of Envy & Co, which launched last week, takes the initiative’s iconic African products to new, luxury heights. The collection includes 12 limited-edition pieces with rich colours and patterns thanks to the presence of malachite, gold, rose gold and copper.
Hands down my top pick from the collection is the malachite bowl for its of-the-moment deep green hue and characteristic patterns and its delicate, yet generous, form. Made from strips of printed graphics, the bowls (and all the other pieces) are handmade and signed by the artist who produced them. They will be limited to just 50.
