Stuck for ideas for dinner? If you’ve got a phone, no probs

Call up and get a great supper combo-kit of ingredients and recipes delivered by SuzelleDIY and UCOOK

Andrea Nagel

Last week a big cardboard box was delivered to my house and when I opened I found a delightful surprise – all the ingredients I would need to create a perfect SA meal dreamed up by Suzelle DIY.
SuzelleDIY and UCOOK  have  collaborated to make dinner time easy, creative and delicious. During May, UCOOK features a lineup of SuzelleDIY recipes as part of its weekly dinner-kit delivery service.
DIY sensation Suzelle released her first cookbook – Recipes by SuzelleDIY –  in 2018, including everything from fancy papterts to baklava braai pies and popcorn lollies.
“A lot of people ask me: ‘Suzelle, how do I cook the perfect dinner every night?’ The secret is simple: don’t over-complicate it! UCOOK makes  things simple – it’s a DIY dinner. Delivered to you! There’s it!”
Ari Kruger and Julia Anastasopoulos, the creative duo behind SuzelleDIY, say UCOOK will feature some of Suzelle’s favourite recipes, including bobotie balls, hake flake bake, ostrich and biltong butter, halloumi burgers, and lamb & corn salsa that fans can order and cook at home from ethically and locally sourced seasonal ingredients.
I made the lamb and corn salsa with Moroccan tabbouleh, blistered tommies and tzatziki. It was easy to follow the recipe and the meal turned out to be full of delicious Eastern flavours that, surprisingly enough, my kids absolutely enjoyed – we just left the coriander out of the salad (a notorious no-no for kids) and they gobbled up everything else. They were even happy to have the leftover tabbouleh, which was made with bulgur wheat, pickled onions, grilled corn and soy sauce, as a lef over for lunch the next day.
The lamb was also a hit – UCOOK sources the meat from high quality butchers and you can taste it in the cuts.
To make the offering even more appealing to people who care about waste, Suzelle  shows how to upcycle your UCOOK box in fun and creative ways – she has some clever tips and tricks up her to sleeve: “That’s right, we’re going to cook delicious dishes and then we’re going to create beautiful things. It’s all happening here,” she says.
UCOOK offers 12 recipe options a week and delivers to home or office addresses every Monday. Go to www.ucook.co.za for more.
