Square eyes for the straight guys: Have a good old binge

Curl up on the couch with a torrent of new streaming movies, documentaries and series this weekend

THE BALLAD OF BUSTER SCRUGGS (NETFLIX)
The Coen Brothers take what was supposed to have been a six-part series and turn it into a six-part anthology Western film. Dark, blackly comic fables about the short brutal nasty thing we call life – it’s a unique and suitably Coenesque return to form for cinema’s most inventive brothers.
TREVOR NOAH: SON OF PATRICIA (NETFLIX)
The Daily Show host takes some time out from the absurdity of Trump era politics to deliver a standup special that’s a personal, surprisingly touching and thought provoking look at race, cultural identity and family.
NARCOS MEXICO (NETFLIX)
After Pablo Escobar and the Calli Cartel in Columbia, everyone’s favourite drug business show turns its attention to Guadalajara and the rise of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. Starring Diego Luna and Michael Peña, this fourth season delivers plenty of thrills, backstabbing drama and close shaves from an unbelievable chapter in the true story of the war on drugs.
BERLIN SYNDROME (SHOWMAX)
Acclaimed director Cate Shortland’s Sundance favourite stars Teresa Palmer as an Australian photographer who travels to Berlin and meets a mysterious local Andi (Max Riemelt). After a night together things spiral into a gripping psychodrama of dark obsession and terror that puts a nightmarish twist on the old girl-meets-boy-in-a-foreign-town story.
WALT: THE MAN BEHIND THE MYTH (NETFLIX)
Presented by the Walt Disney Family Foundation, this is an upbeat and charming documentary on the self-made legend of the man who created the legend. It’s not groundbreaking but it’s filled with rare archive interviews and tells a fascinating story of a man obsessed who created a legacy that continues to entertain decades after his death.
