Grant takes Mickey out of Guy Ritchie’s ‘Toff Guys’

Hugh Grant has become the latest actor to join Guy Ritchie’s forthcoming gangster film Toff Guys. Grant will appear alongside Matthew McConaughey, Kate Beckinsale and Crazy Rich Asians breakout star Henry Golding.
The film will explore the clash of criminal titans between old drug money and the new money fuelling the modern marijuana industrial complex. It follows the quest of a British drug lord to cash in on his highly profitable empire by selling it off to a dynasty of Oklahoma billionaires.
The Four Weddings and a Funeral star will play Fletcher, a British gossip journalist with a reputation of going into people’s lives, and undoing them. It is a highly ironic casting; Grant has long been wary of the press and is a supporter of press regulation. The actor settled a phone-hacking claim against the Mirror earlier this year.
Ritchie’s Toff Guys will mark a return to the grittier films with which he made his name, such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. Although famed in the 1990s for his gangster blockbusters, Ritchie has since taken on lighter fare. He’s currently in post-production for Disney’s live-action adaptation of the animated classic Aladdin, which will be released in May next year.
Toff Guys’s release date has not yet been announced.
