If I hadn’t seen the needle going into my arm, I probably wouldn’t have noticed the prick at 12:01 on Thursday giving me either the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine or a placebo shot.

The needle was thin and the jab virtually painless, over in a heartbeat.

For the next six days, myself and my partner, who also joined the Ox1CoV-19 vaccine VIDA-trial (https://lunginstitute.co.za/lcru-research-trials/), must keep track of our “general reactions” to see if we have any symptoms which mimic those of Covid-19...
