EDITORIAL | Online election could catapult embattled DA offline

In addition to wreaking havoc on our public health system and the economy, the coronavirus pandemic has also presented the world with a new challenge, the potential disruption of something that underpins the foundation of democracy.  

While SA is not holding elections until next year, the official opposition is due to elect a leader through online voting in less than two months.  

This comes after a federal council meeting in which the DA declared that: “The vote in favour of holding a virtual congress was supported by an overwhelming majority following a lengthy discussion on a range of aspects, including technical issues impacting online voting.” ..
