Green shoots, as economists call them, are signs that the economy is coming to life. They are already emerging, these buds, holding the promise of a plentiful summer, except South Africans know better than to expect a bountiful harvest. What we know is that what is promised seldom comes to fruition.
The SACCI BCI, which measures business confidence, is showing signs of recovering and retail sales show this key sector of the economy is gaining ground.
