Say what you like about the booze ban, it is the result of a collective shame we need to acknowledge
The words “all alcohol sales are banned with immediate effect” had barely left President Cyril Ramaphosa’s mouth on Sunday evening, when the keyboard warriors blindly united in condemning the government to places before unknown to mankind.
And in language that should rather not be repeated.
Now, you can blame the government for a lot of things. Have they done enough to prepare for the Covid-19 pandemic? Are we paying the price for years and years of neglect of our healthcare system? Are inefficient officials in provinces truly held accountable for the fatal flaws in not only health, but its ripple effect on housing, education and job security?..
