[To her sister, Jessica] I must tell you about the weekend. Well our host took us to tea with the Minister for Overseas Trade & he begged Rodd [Nancy’s husband] to behave & so Rodd was very good & the MFOT was very pompously telling us about some Japanese delegates who had been staying with him & how one of them was ill & he then said to me rather difficult to know what to do with a sick Japanese & I hadn’t been attending very much so I said Oh I should send for the vet & oh Susan, Rodd & Edward Stanley simply rolled on the ground & nobody else laughed at all...
