The ANC is beset by upsetting medical conditions, one of which could see Zuma playing golf and smoking cigars


As Jacob Zuma’s corruption trial is postponed until September, many South Africans will be deeply worried about the former president’s health, as it now seems certain he will begin a slow spiral towards semi-terminal chronic Schabiritis.

On Tuesday, as a warrant for his arrest was cancelled on the grounds that he had been too sick to appear in court in February, a ripple of unease passed through the nation, with many fearing that a process has now begun which will eventually see the former president forced to spend his days playing golf and smoking cigars on luxury estates.

Certainly, the odds are not in Zuma’s favour. It is unclear what ailment kept him out of court in February, but Schabiritis is a complex condition with a variety of symptoms and if he is already having warrants cancelled, then who knows how bad things might be come September? ..
