We may mock religious politicians for wanting places of worship made into giant petri dishes. But it’s what they want

It’s tempting to call Kenneth Meshoe, leader of the ACDP, a prophet howling in the wilderness. But that would be unfair to prophets howling in the wildness. Yes, people ignored them too, but at least they got written about hundreds of years later.

No, Meshoe isn’t so much a prophet as bizarre proof that God truly does work in mysterious ways, as the reverend sits in parliament year after year, getting far too rich to enter the kingdom of heaven, for doing, well, God knows what.

On Monday afternoon he was back at his tiny pulpit, demanding that churches be reopened and warning of what he saw as “an anti-church attitude” creeping into SA. ..
