EDITORIAL | Let’s use our unity to end the other plagues ravaging SA
Every life is noteworthy, so we need to keep solidarity alive in the battle against our nation’s many other ills
The lockdown that has forced us to live mostly apart from each other has also, perversely, brought us closer together.
It has given the media a reason to publish stories about ordinary humans who strive and struggle in myriad ordinary ways — people who would never make the news pages when the nation is preoccupied with politics, crime and other extra-ordinary matters. The hyphen is intentional.
The coronavirus plague, as much as it exposes inequality, is a strange leveller. The billionaire behind a fortified bulwark is as susceptible to illness — if not as vulnerable in other ways — as the waste picker who sleeps under cardboard. ..
