Privilege check aside – not every environment is equal or conducive to deep introspection – the enforced isolation has seen many countries across the continent report an increase in cases of gender-based violence and violence against children.

The lockdown compounded matters on our continent, which is already ravaged by poverty and inequality, and our most vulnerable were again caught firmly in the crossfire of our efforts to flatten the curve...
