If the latest predictions are accurate, SA’s lockdown plan falls way short - 20,000-odd ventilators short

In this dark cloud called Covid-19 that hangs over our heads, the one sliver of light peaking through the gloom was that SA’s devastating lockdown was for the greater ultimate good.

It was buying us time to ready our hospitals and medical facilities, to build fields hospitals, to ensure medical staff have proper protective gear and enough ICU beds to treat the imminent influx of patients.

But new projections released by the health department on Tuesday night blow this small reassurance out of the water...
