There’s a difference between misinformation and disinformation, but it’s only a matter of degree
It has been difficult to separate real from fake since way before ancient profiteers started selling splinters of “the true cross” at astronomical prices.
Humans are gullible. It’s part of what makes us charming. But it can also put us in harm’s way. Even when a life-raft of hard scientific data points our way to safety, some will still choose to be denialist rebels and drown in their own error.
When, as now, we are faced with a dangerous situation about which not enough is known, the lack of information too easily lands us in a muddy swamp of misinformation and disinformation...
