Covid-19 is set to explode in the townships, where a disastrous set of comorbidities is endemic


For the first time, SA has details of who is most at risk of ending up in hospital and dying if they contract Covid-19.

Health minister Zweli Mkhize disclosed on Saturday evening that 58% of those who have lost their lives are men. Only one person under 30 has died, while almost half the fatalities have occurred among people aged between 60 and 79.

The three most common underlying conditions linked to serious illness and hospitalisation are hypertension, diabetes and cardiac disease, which in many cases are the result of a poor diet...
