What do you do if a pandemic dries up or reduces your income and you can no longer afford your rent?

Many have the option of moving in with family or friends who expect little or no payment. The problem is, for the second month now, they haven’t been able to move out of their rented place and as long as they stay, they’re liable for full rent. End of lock-up, as my dad accidentally called it, was originally said to be April 17. Then we were told it was May 1 and those with plans to move in with family or into the cheaper flat they’d signed a lease and paid a deposit for were thankful they’d be free to move on that long weekend. Just in time.

But it was not to be. Later we learnt we would remain “stuck” indefinitely. Level 4 lockdown regulations, published on April 29, don’t mention removal companies or moving home specifically...
