On Tuesday, Netwerk24 suggested that President Cyril Ramaphosa “should go and see what Trump is doing” and hold a daily press briefing.

At first I assumed this was satire. Urging any world leader to emulate that golden calf, mooing disconsolately about the White House as it chews the endlessly regurgitated cud of its own limitations, seems comically and deliberately absurd.

Then there was the fact that Trump’s daily briefings are only daily when he’s not having a tantrum. After the US reacted with astonishment and anger to his speculation that “disinfectant” might be “injected” into people with Covid-19, Trump suspended the briefings for the weekend, presumably so that he could shout at his TV uninterrupted for 48 hours...
