There is only one thing more tedious than stories about high school and that is stories about high school told by the middle-aged. But please bear with me.
I went to a very academic high school, a kind of class-replicating machine where doctors and lawyers sent their neurotic wunderkinder to become doctors and lawyers, or, in my case, where an academically brilliant older sister had more or less forced them to take me.
And it was there that I discovered how “great” schools can be absolutely rubbish at teaching. ..
