Yes, less than two weeks after SAA went into business rescue and a week after SA experienced stage 6 blackouts, and as Cape Town continues to offer only limited train services because too many carriages have been burned, Mbalula wants the ANC to take on the high seas. What could possibly go wrong?

According to Mbalula, a national marine carrier is important because SA is a “maritime nation”. This will come as a surprise to the fishing fleets of China that have spent the last many years emptying SA’s territorial waters with only the most sporadic and polite visits from underfunded, overstretched fisheries patrol ships and aircraft...
