Black Friday is capitalist punishment for the masses
The idea is slowly filtering through that if you have the choice to say no to cheaper products, you don’t get to judge
If it’s Black Friday, it’s time to discount things! Like the desperation of the working poor! The economic and psychological vulnerability of the middle class! How intricately and inescapably we’re all intertwined with modern capitalism! Hurrah!
Before I get into that, however, I want to extend to you the traditional felicitations of this blessed day. May your trolley’s wheels run true, may your internet connection not falter, and may you be wealthy enough to be slightly appalled by the whole thing and not see the day as a moment of respite in an otherwise brutal capitalist death-race.
To be fair, the phenomenon behind that third wish – the trend of blaming poor people for wanting discounts on basic items – seems to be fading...
