[After lunch with his elderly and very upper-class friend Violet Wyndham] She recalled the Baron and Baronne de Meyer, he the great Vogue photographer, whose chic and sophistication were looked upon as beyond the social pale. As a girl Violet had gone to the Prince’s ice rink and the de Meyers were there. She was never allowed to go there again. How different, she mused, from today, when “forbidden” people were immediately put on everyone’s guest list...
