Cyril had to fight dirty with CR17, but now he must clean up ANC elections

Money is what oils the ANC's wheels, and Ramaphosa was just doing what Zuma had done - but now it has to stop

President Cyril Ramaphosa is absolutely right and, at the same time, absolutely wrong in his defence of the staggering amount of money used to fund his campaign to propel him into ANC power in December 2017.

Last week, Ramaphosa stood in parliament and said there is nothing wrong or illegal in members of a political party using private money to further their aims within that party. He is right, particularly if he is truthful when he added that within the context of his own election campaign there was “no criminality – and no abuse of public funds”.

Over the past few weeks we have been inundated with fake outrage from politicians and their mouthpieces about the monies used to put Ramaphosa in power through the CR17 campaign. Many of these outraged individuals are from within the ANC itself and from without, particularly in the Economic Freedom Fighters...
