Please, ANC, just dump Eskom while you can. If you don’t, SA is doomed

SOEs are too far down the drain to be saved. They'll have to be ditched in the end, so why not get it over with now?


Very few of SA’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs), most of which are technically insolvent, collapsing money guzzlers, can reasonably be expected to be capacitated in the near future to successfully execute developmental mandates.

Successful economic reforms take place within existing realities and must be evidence-based and pragmatic, not driven by wishful thinking, ideological or populist. To argue that SOEs will lead development in SA is at best naïve and at worst an extraordinary reckless use of scarce public resources.

Many ANC members and supporters do still strongly believe that SOEs will provide public services, jobs and black business opportunities. There may have been a reasonable chance before the current wave of state capture, patronage appointments, dodgy suppliers and diminishing public funds, to have used SOEs for developmental purposes...
