Single living is on the rise. A recent UK government report predicted that 10.7 million Brits – one in seven – will be a single household by 2039.

Personal choice, life circumstances, rising levels of divorce and job migration are all factors in the increasing number of people going it alone on the domestic front.

I am one of those people. I am 44, happily single and, despite having been in long-term relationships, have chosen to spend much of my adult life living by myself...
