So everybody must take the pain for Eskom? Really?

Why should the blameless public be made to pay for mismanagement that resulted in this expensive mess?

If there is any throwaway line that will bring furious tears to the eyes it’s the casual exhortation from Jabu Mabuza, the acting CEO of Eskom, that everybody has to take pain to fix the power utility.

If SA’s 58 million people were involved in the chronic mismanagement of Eskom, which is R450bn in debt and getting deeper into the red all the time, then maybe he’d have a point.

If SA’s industry was to blame for doing business, expecting electricity to be reasonably priced and with increases linked to inflation so as not to destroy manufacturing and jobs, then fair enough...
