No milk today: Clover sours on shabby service delivery

Company packs up and leaves small towns due to losses incurred by their failure to provide basic services

What will it take for government to realise that poor service delivery in some smaller towns is killing investment and damaging local economic development and employment?

In its past financial year, listed food and beverages company Clover Industries (https://www.sharenet.co.za/v3/quickshare.php?scode=CLR) had to dispose of R15m worth of cheese because its cooling equipment failed due to power outages, a Clover legal representative told the Competition Tribunal on Wednesday.

She said the deterioration in service delivery in small towns is the key reason for the company moving its facilities to Port Elizabeth, Queensburgh in KwaZulu-Natal, and Clayville in Gauteng...
