Just over two weeks ago, two amazing events happened within an hour or so of each other which may change the course of history in SA.

Bafana Bafana scored the goal that would give them victory over the host nation, Egypt, in the Africa Cup of Nations, and the Proteas beat Australia in their cricket World Cup match. The victories themselves were hardly earth-shattering events but their impact was significant to many of us.

All of a sudden, having written both our national soccer and cricket teams off as something of an embarrassment, our collective patriotic chests began to swell as we started believing again. ..
