Only the state can prise the poor from the jaws of loan sharks

If only it used what it spent on the relief of unemployment, poverty and inequality, to create wealth-enabling capital

Equilibrium is that state which is reached when opposing forces find themselves equally matched, in balance, but not necessarily at rest. Unless such opposing forces both remain vigilant one will prevail and things will move increasingly in the direction of that force until an opposing force is brought back into play.

All flawed designs, all structural bias, will likewise not self-correct. It requires interruption.

One of the challenges forever facing a virtuous state is to determine, choose and apply those forces which need to be brought to bear to change those things in society which, seemingly naturally, keep going wrong. This naturally presupposes an accepted definition of right and wrong, and desired outcomes...
